How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 5 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase the dose to 10 mg once a day if needed.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 10 mg.

  • Urinary tract infection, bladder inflammation

  • Difficulty urinating
  • Tiredness, fluid retention in arms and legs
  • Blocked bowel, fecal impaction
  • Difficulty emptying the bladder
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Vomiting
  • Itching, rash
  • Hallucinations, confusion
  • Allergic rash
  • Decreased appetite
  • High potassium levels in blood (can cause abnormal heart rhythm)
  • Increased eye pressure
  • Changes in heart's electrical activity (ECG), irregular heartbeat, feeling your heart beat fast (palpitations)
  • Voice problems
  • Liver problems
  • Muscle weakness
  • Kidney problems

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to solifenacin or any other ingredient in Vesicare.
  • Do not take if you have trouble emptying your bladder completely, or if you have a weak urine stream.
  • Do not take if you have severe stomach or bowel problems, including severe constipation.
  • Do not take if you have myasthenia gravis, a muscle weakness condition.
  • Do not take if you have uncontrolled high eye pressure (glaucoma) with progressive vision loss.

  • Do not take if you have severe kidney disease or moderate liver problems AND are taking other medicines that slow down how Vesicare is removed from your body.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you experience severe allergic reactions (like swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or hives).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include tachycardia, confusion and cognitive impairment.. Consider the risk of QT prolongation especially when combined with other QT-prolonging drugs. Increases risk of falls. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 25.11.2024)
