How to Use

Dosage

The typical daily dose for adults is 45 mg per square meter of body surface area (about 8 capsules).

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water, preferably with or immediately after a meal. Do not chew them.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Hair loss
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Changes in vision and hearing
  • Bone or joint pain, chest pain or stomach ache
  • Rash, itchy skin, redness, peeling skin or inflammation
  • Dry skin, mouth and nose; swollen, dry and chapped lips
  • Breathing difficulties, such as worsening asthma or respiratory failure
  • Conjunctivitis or dry eyes, which may cause discomfort for contact lens users
  • Sleep problems
  • Increased sweating
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Fatigue, feeling cold or general malaise
  • Confusion, anxiety or depression
  • Tingling or numbness in arms or legs
  • Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, stomach pain, pancreatitis, lip inflammation, diarrhea or constipation
  • Changes in blood test results, such as elevated liver enzymes (transaminases), creatinine, or blood fats (triglycerides and cholesterol)
RARE
  • Genital ulcers
  • Severe bacterial infections (necrotizing fasciitis)
  • Kidney problems (kidney infarction)
  • Muscle swelling or blood vessel swelling (vasculitis)
  • Red painful lumps under the skin, usually on the shins (erythema nodosum)
  • Loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting, headache, feeling sleepy or weak (possible symptoms of high blood calcium levels)
  • Other changes in blood test results, such as excessive platelet count (thrombocytosis), changes in white blood cell count (basophilia) or increased histamine levels
  • Inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis) or the outer sac of the heart (pericarditis), which can cause shortness of breath, palpitations, or chest pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Vesanoid if you are allergic to tretinoin, other retinoids (like isotretinoin), peanuts, or soy.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, as it can harm the baby.
  • Avoid taking Vesanoid with Vitamin A supplements, tetracycline antibiotics, or other retinoid medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of mental health issues like depression or mood swings, as Vesanoid can affect your mood.
  • This medicine may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery, especially if you experience dizziness or severe headaches.

  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe headaches with nausea/vomiting, breathing difficulties, fever, dizziness, or chest/back pain.
  • Contact your doctor if you have severe stomach pain radiating to your back (possible pancreatitis).
  • Report to your doctor if you develop fever with dark, raised skin patches, especially on the face or neck (possible Sweet's syndrome).
  • Inform your doctor immediately if you have painful leg swelling, sudden chest pain, or breathing difficulties (possible blood clot).
  • Tell your doctor if you experience chest pain radiating to your arm or neck (possible heart attack).
  • Consult your doctor if you have double vision and dizziness, especially with nausea/vomiting, ringing in the ears, and headache (possible increased pressure in the skull).
  • Report unexplained headache or migraine with vision problems (possible stroke).
