Ventoline oral solution contains salbutamol, which relaxes the muscles in the airways to make breathing easier, and is used to treat asthma and other respiratory diseases.

How to Use

Dosage

Adults and children over 12 usually take 5-10 ml (2-4 mg salbutamol). Children 6-12 years usually take 5 ml (2 mg salbutamol). Children 2-6 years usually take 2.5-5 ml (1-2 mg salbutamol).

Method

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. It can be taken when needed to relieve asthma symptoms, or regularly if symptoms are continuous.

Important

Do not exceed 40 ml (16 mg salbutamol) per day for adults and children over 12 years. Do not exceed 20 ml (8 mg salbutamol) per day for children 2-12 years. Always consult your doctor before changing your dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Tremor (shaking)
  • Headache
  • Increased heart rate, palpitations (pounding heart)
  • Muscle cramps
RARE
  • Low potassium levels in the blood
  • Irregular heartbeats
  • Widening of peripheral blood vessels (blood vessels further from the heart)
  • Hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., sudden swelling of skin, mucous membranes, or internal organs, hives, narrowing of airways, decreased muscle tone, fainting)
  • Hyperactivity
  • Feeling of muscle tension
  • Lack of oxygen to the heart muscle (myocardial ischemia)
  • Chest pain (acute heart-related chest pain) – contact your doctor if you experience this.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to salbutamol or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had heart disease, irregular heartbeat, or chest pain.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an overactive thyroid or low potassium levels.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, especially if you are also taking corticosteroids.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if your asthma symptoms worsen or if Ventoline becomes less effective.

  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.
  • Certain blood pressure medications (beta-blockers) may reduce the effect of Ventoline.
  • Always tell your doctor or pharmacist about any other medications you are taking or have recently taken.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Inhaled dosage forms are the first-line approach. Systemic administration increases the risk of adverse effects. Significant adverse effects include tremor, tachycardia and arrhythmias.. Avoid concurrent use with beta blockers. Risk of hypokalaemia. (updated 15.5.2023)
