Vectavir cream treats cold sores (herpes labialis) by stopping the virus from multiplying, speeding up healing, reducing pain, and shortening the contagious period.

How to Use

Dosage

Apply every two hours during the day, approximately eight times daily, for four consecutive days.

Method

Wash your hands before and after use. Squeeze a small amount onto your finger and apply it to the cold sore area.

Important

Do not use more than eight times daily for four days. If symptoms persist or worsen after four days, consult a doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Burning, tingling, or numbness at the application site. These usually go away quickly.
RARE
  • Contact dermatitis
  • Rash
  • Hives
  • Itching
  • Swelling

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to penciclovir, famciclovir, or any other ingredients in the cream.
  • Only apply to cold sores on the lips or around the mouth. Do not use inside the mouth or nose, on genitals, or in/near the eyes.
  • Consult a doctor if you are unsure if your sores are cold sores, or if you have a weakened immune system (e.g., due to HIV, organ transplant, or cancer treatment).
  • Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
  • Cold sores are contagious. To prevent spreading the virus, avoid kissing, oral sex, sharing towels or eating utensils, picking blisters, and touching your eyes. Do not share the cream.

  • Contains cetostearyl alcohol and propylene glycol, which may cause local skin reactions or irritation.
