How to Use

Dosage

One 0.5 ml dose for adults and children aged 6 months to 17 years.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give the injection into a muscle or under the skin.

Important

Children under 9 who have not been vaccinated against the flu before need a second 0.5 ml dose at least four weeks after the first dose. Otherwise, one dose is enough.

  • Redness, swelling, or hardening where the shot was given
  • Bruising where the shot was given
  • Irritability (in young children)

  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Tiredness or unusual weakness
  • Itching or warmth where the shot was given
  • Hot flushes
  • Swollen glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  • Strange skin sensations (like tingling or numbness)
  • Drowsiness or unusual crying (in young children)
  • Increased sweating
  • Flu-like illness
  • Joint pain
  • Discomfort where the shot was given
  • Temporary drop in blood platelets (can cause more bruising or bleeding)
  • Groaning or restlessness (in young children)
  • Upper stomach pain
  • Hypersensitivity (allergic reaction)
  • Nerve pain
  • Seizures
  • Nerve problems (like stiff neck, confusion, numbness, weakness, balance issues, or paralysis)
  • Inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis) which can cause rash or temporary kidney problems
  • Severe allergic reaction (with symptoms like rash, itching, hives, redness, trouble breathing, swelling of face/lips/throat/tongue, cold/clammy skin, fast heartbeat, dizziness, weakness, or fainting)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to the active ingredients, any other ingredient in the vaccine, or very small amounts of egg, neomycin, formaldehyde, or octoxinol-9.
  • Postpone vaccination if you or your child has a high or moderate fever or an acute illness.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your child has a weak immune system or takes medicines that affect the immune system.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your child has bleeding problems or bruises easily.
  • Inform your doctor or nurse if you or your child has fainted during a previous injection.

  • Tell your doctor if you or your child will have a blood test within a few days after vaccination, as results might be incorrect.
  • This vaccine is not recommended for children under 6 months of age.
