How to Use

Dosage

Start with 0.5 mg once a day for the first 3 days, then 0.5 mg twice a day for days 4-7. From day 8 onwards, take 1 mg twice a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 2 mg (1 mg taken twice daily).

  • Fungal infection, viral infection
  • Panic, difficulty thinking, restlessness, mood changes, depression, anxiety, hallucinations, changed sex drive
  • Seizures, shaking, sluggishness, reduced sense of touch
  • Eye inflammation (conjunctivitis), eye pain
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Chest pain during effort, fast heartbeat, palpitations, increased heart rate
  • High blood pressure, hot flashes
  • Nose, sinus, and throat inflammation, blocked nose/throat/chest, hoarseness, hay fever, throat irritation, blocked sinuses, too much mucus causing cough, runny nose
  • Bloody stools, stomach irritation, changes in bowel habits, belching, mouth ulcers (canker sores), gum pain
  • Red skin, acne, increased sweating, night sweats
  • Muscle twitching, chest wall pain
  • Urinating more often than usual, urinating at night

  • Severe skin reactions, including erythema multiforme (a type of rash) and Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a severe disease with blisters on the skin, mouth, around the eyes, or genitals)
  • Severe allergic reactions, including angioedema (swelling of the face, mouth, or throat)
  • Temporary loss of consciousness

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to varenicline or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you experience agitation, depressed mood, or changes in behavior, or have suicidal thoughts, stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor immediately.
  • Seek urgent medical help if you have symptoms of a heart attack or stroke, especially if you already have heart problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of seizures or epilepsy before starting this medicine.
  • Stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe allergic reactions like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or wheezing.

  • If you develop a rash, peeling skin, or blisters, stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical help.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or temporary loss of consciousness. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
  • Drinking alcohol while taking this medicine may increase its effects, so be careful.
