How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your age and weight. For adults, it's usually 15-20 mg per kg of body weight every 8-12 hours; for children, it's 10-15 mg per kg of body weight every 6 hours.

Method

The medicine is given as a slow drip (infusion) into a vein over at least 60 minutes. Healthcare staff will administer the medicine to you in the hospital.

Important

The maximum daily dose should not exceed 2 grams.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath, noisy breathing
  • Rash and inflammation in the mouth, itching, itchy rash, hives
  • Kidney problems, mainly seen in blood tests
  • Redness of the upper body and face, vein inflammation
RARE
  • Temporary or permanent hearing loss
  • Decrease in white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets (blood cells responsible for clotting)
  • Increase in some white blood cells
  • Balance problems, ringing in the ears, dizziness
  • Inflammation of blood vessels
  • Nausea
  • Kidney inflammation and kidney failure
  • Chest and back muscle pain
  • Fever, chills
  • Sudden severe allergic skin reaction with peeling skin, blisters, or skin detachment, possibly with high fever and joint pain
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Bowel inflammation causing stomach pain and possibly bloody diarrhea
  • Vomiting, diarrhea
  • Confusion, drowsiness, weakness, swelling, fluid retention, decreased urine output
  • Rash with swelling or pain behind ears, in neck, armpits, groin, under chin (swollen lymph nodes), abnormal blood and liver test results
  • Rash with blisters and fever

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to vancomycin, teicoplanin, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney or hearing problems (especially if you are elderly), as you may need extra check-ups during treatment.
  • Seek immediate medical help and stop using the medicine if you develop a severe rash, blisters, peeling skin, sores in your mouth, or flu-like symptoms.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor, as the medicine may harm the baby.
  • If you use the medicine for a long time, you may need blood, liver, and kidney tests, as well as hearing tests, to check for side effects.

  • Too rapid administration can cause an allergic reaction, such as a drop in blood pressure, skin redness (so-called "red man" syndrome), or rarely, cardiac arrest. If such symptoms occur, treatment will be stopped immediately.
