Vamtexar

Vamtexar is a combination of two medicines that relieve pain and inflammation in conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, while also protecting the stomach from ulcers.

How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet twice a day as long as your doctor prescribes.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not chew, divide, or crush them. Take the tablets at least 30 minutes before a meal.

Important

The maximum daily dose is two tablets per day (1000 mg naproxen and 40 mg esomeprazole).

  • Worsening of inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis), with symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and weight loss
  • Changes in blood cell counts, such as low red blood cells (anemia), white blood cells, or platelets. This can lead to weakness, bruising, fever, severe chills, sore throat, or increased risk of infection.
  • Eosinophilia (an increased number of a specific type of white blood cell)
  • Pancytopenia (a deficiency of all types of blood cells)
  • Circulatory disorders or blood vessel damage, with symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, fainting, chest pain, or general pain.
  • Involuntary muscle movements (due to low magnesium levels from long-term use)
  • Extensive rash (DRESS syndrome) with fever, elevated liver enzymes, abnormal blood counts (eosinophilia), and enlarged lymph nodes, affecting other organs.
  • Fixed drug eruption (a distinct allergic skin reaction, usually round or oval red patches on the skin that reappear in the same spot after exposure to the medicine).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Vamtexar if you are allergic to naproxen, esomeprazole, other proton pump inhibitors, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if aspirin or other NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) have previously caused asthma (wheezing) or an allergic reaction (like a rash or hives).
  • Do not take during the last three months of pregnancy. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • Do not breastfeed if you are taking Vamtexar.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver, kidney, or heart problems.

  • Do not take if you have a stomach or duodenal ulcer, a bleeding disorder, or severe unexpected bleeding.
  • Do not take if you are using HIV medications called atazanavir or nelfinavir.
  • Stop taking Vamtexar and seek immediate medical help if you experience sudden wheezing, swelling of the lips, tongue, throat or body, fainting, or difficulty swallowing (signs of a severe allergic reaction).
  • Stop taking Vamtexar and seek immediate medical help if you develop a severe rash, blistering or peeling skin, or if your skin or whites of your eyes turn yellow, your urine darkens, and you feel tired (signs of liver problems).
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience chest pain radiating to the neck, shoulders, and left arm, confusion, muscle weakness, or numbness on one side of your body (signs of heart attack or stroke).
  • Seek immediate medical help if your stools are black and sticky or bloody, or if you vomit blood or dark particles resembling coffee grounds (signs of internal bleeding).
  • Vamtexar is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery if this occurs.
  • Long-term use (over three months) of Vamtexar may lower blood magnesium levels, which can lead to fatigue, muscle twitches, confusion, seizures, dizziness, or a fast heartbeat. Your doctor may check your magnesium levels.
  • Using this medicine for a long time may slightly increase the risk of hip, wrist, or spine fractures.
  • Vamtexar is not suitable for quick relief of acute pain, as its pain-relieving effect takes several hours to start.
