How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on the child's age and weight. For premature babies, it starts around 23-38 ml/kg per day and gradually increases to 38-54 ml/kg per day. For full-term newborns, the dose is 23-46 ml/kg per day; for infants, it's 15-38 ml/kg per day; and for older children, it's 15-31 ml/kg per day. Your doctor will adjust the dose.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give Vaminolac as an infusion directly into a vein. The infusion should last at least 8 hours, preferably 12–24 hours continuously or intermittently. For newborns, a 24-hour continuous infusion is recommended.

Important

The maximum daily dose depends on the child's age: for premature babies, it's 54 ml/kg/day; for full-term newborns, 46 ml/kg/day; for infants, 38 ml/kg/day; and for older children, 31 ml/kg/day. This dose provides a maximum of 3.5 grams of amino acids per kg of body weight.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Skin redness and warmth
  • Sweating
  • Temporary changes in liver tests
  • Inflammation of the vein at the infusion site (thrombophlebitis), especially if given into a small vein. This risk can be lowered with other infusions.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Vaminolac if the child has a congenital amino acid metabolism disorder.
  • Do not use Vaminolac if the child has permanent liver damage.
  • Do not use Vaminolac if the child has severe kidney failure (uremia) and dialysis is not possible.
  • The solution must be protected from light (for example, by covering it) when given to babies and children under 2 years old. This is important to prevent harmful substances from forming.
