How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose is one Valsartan/Hydrochlorothiazide Actavis tablet per day.

Method

Take your medicine at the same time each day, usually in the morning, with or without food, swallowed with a glass of water.

Important

The maximum daily dose will be determined by your doctor, but the typical recommended dose is one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low potassium in blood
  • High fat levels in blood
  • Low sodium in blood
  • Low magnesium in blood
  • High uric acid in blood
  • Itchy rash or other rashes
  • Loss of appetite
  • Mild nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness, fainting when standing up
  • Inability to get or keep an erection
RARE
  • Cough
  • Low blood pressure
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Dehydration (thirst, dry mouth/tongue, rarely needing to urinate, dark urine, dry skin)
  • Muscle pain
  • Tiredness
  • Tingling or numbness
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing or buzzing in ears
  • Joint pain
  • Abdominal pain
  • Swelling in the intestines (with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
  • Skin swelling and blisters (due to sun sensitivity)
  • High calcium in blood
  • High blood sugar
  • Sugar in urine
  • Worsening of diabetes
  • Constipation, stomach/intestinal discomfort, liver problems (yellow skin/eyes)
  • Irregular heartbeats
  • Headache
  • Sleep problems
  • Depressed mood
  • Low platelet count (bleeding or bruising)
  • Vision disturbances

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to valsartan, hydrochlorothiazide, sulfonamides, soy, peanuts, or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant or trying to get pregnant, as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver disease or conditions like cholestasis (a buildup of bile in the liver).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney disease, cannot produce urine (anuria), or are on dialysis.
  • Do not take this medicine if your blood potassium or sodium levels are too low, or if your calcium levels are too high, even with treatment.

  • Do not take this medicine if you have gout, or if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking aliskiren.
  • If you get swelling of your face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing (signs of angioedema), stop taking this medicine immediately and see a doctor. Do not take it again.
  • If you experience blurred vision or eye pain, these could be signs of fluid buildup in the eye or increased pressure. Seek medical help immediately as it can lead to permanent vision loss if not treated.
  • This medicine can increase your risk of certain skin cancers. Protect your skin from sun and UV rays while taking it.
  • If you have severe shortness of breath or trouble breathing after taking this medicine, get immediate medical help.
