How to Use

Dosage

One tablet once a day.

Method

Take the tablet whole with a glass of water, with or without food, preferably in the morning at the same time each day.

Important

Always follow your doctor's instructions for dosage. Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low levels of potassium, sodium, or magnesium in your blood.
  • High levels of uric acid or fats (lipids) in your blood.
  • Itchy skin rash or other skin rashes.
  • Less appetite.
  • Mild nausea (feeling sick) and vomiting.
  • Dizziness or fainting, especially when standing up quickly.
  • Problems getting or keeping an erection.
RARE
  • Cough and low blood pressure.
  • Feeling dizzy or a spinning sensation (vertigo).
  • Dehydration (thirst, dry mouth, less frequent or dark urine, dry skin).
  • Muscle pain or joint pain.
  • Tiredness or general weakness.
  • Tingling or numbness in your hands or feet.
  • Blurred vision, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), or eye pain due to increased pressure.
  • Diarrhea or constipation.
  • Stomach pain, discomfort, or swelling in the intestines (angioedema), which can cause severe pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
  • Liver problems, which may cause yellow skin or eyes.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Headache or problems sleeping.
  • Feeling down or depressed.
  • Low numbers of blood platelets (may cause unusual bleeding or bruising), low white blood cells (may cause fever, sore throat, or frequent infections), or anemia (pale skin, tiredness, dark urine).
  • High calcium or sugar levels in your blood, or sugar in your urine.
  • Worsening of diabetes.
  • Inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis), with symptoms like rash, red spots, or fever.
  • Severe skin reactions to sun, including swelling and blisters.
  • Rash on the face, joint pain, muscle pain, and fever (symptoms similar to lupus).
  • Severe upper abdominal pain (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Breathing problems with fever, cough, wheezing, and shortness of breath (e.g., pneumonia, fluid in lungs).
  • Confusion, tiredness, muscle cramps or spasms, and rapid breathing.
  • Significantly reduced urine output (may be a sign of kidney disease or kidney failure).
  • Skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to valsartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant. It is also not recommended during early pregnancy.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver or kidney disease, cannot urinate (anuria), or are on dialysis.
  • Do not use if your blood potassium or sodium levels are too low, or if your calcium levels are too high despite treatment.
  • Do not use if you have gout.

  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure-lowering medicine called aliskiren.
  • Contact your doctor immediately and stop taking this medicine if you experience an allergic reaction such as swelling of your face or tongue, hives, or difficulty breathing. This can be serious.
  • This medicine can increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight and the risk of skin cancer. Protect your skin from sun and UV rays.
  • If you develop severe shortness of breath, fever, weakness, or confusion, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other blood pressure medicines, especially ACE inhibitors or aliskiren, particularly if you have diabetes or kidney problems.
