How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one tablet per day, but your doctor may change it as needed.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water at the same time each day, preferably in the morning. You can take it with or without food.

Important

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cough
  • Low blood pressure
  • Dizziness
  • Dehydration (thirst, dry mouth)
  • Muscle pain
  • Tiredness
  • Tingling or numbness
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Dizziness with a spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Low blood potassium levels
  • Increased blood lipid levels
  • Low blood sodium levels
  • Low blood magnesium levels
  • High blood uric acid levels
  • Itchy rash and other rashes
  • Decreased appetite
  • Mild nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness, fainting when standing up
  • Inability to get or maintain an erection
RARE
  • Diarrhea
  • Joint pain
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Significantly reduced urine output
  • Low blood sodium levels (may cause tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching and/or cramps)
  • Low blood potassium levels (may cause muscle weakness, cramps, abnormal heart rhythm)
  • Low white blood cell count (may cause fever, infections, sore throat)
  • Increased bilirubin levels (may cause yellow skin and eyes)
  • Increased urea nitrogen and creatinine levels (may indicate kidney problems)
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Swelling of the intestines (intestinal angioedema)
  • Rash with itching, fever, joint pain, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, or flu-like symptoms
  • Rash with red-purple spots on skin, fever, itching (due to blood vessel inflammation)
  • Low platelet count (may cause unusual bleeding or bruising)
  • High blood potassium levels (may cause muscle cramps, abnormal heart rhythm)
  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, dizziness)
  • Swelling, mainly of the face and throat, rash, itching
  • Increased liver function test results
  • Decreased hemoglobin and red blood cell count (may cause anemia)
  • Kidney failure
  • Skin swelling and blisters (due to increased sun sensitivity)
  • High blood calcium levels
  • High blood sugar levels
  • Sugar in urine
  • Worsening of diabetic metabolic state
  • Constipation, diarrhea, stomach or bowel discomfort
  • Liver problems (may include yellow skin and eyes)
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Headache
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Depressed mood (depression)
  • Dizziness
  • Visual disturbances
  • Blood vessel inflammation (vasculitis)
  • Rash, itching, hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, dizziness (allergic reactions)
  • Facial rash, joint pain, muscle pain, fever (lupus erythematosus)
  • Severe upper abdominal pain (pancreatitis)
  • Breathing difficulties with fever, cough, wheezing, shortness of breath (pneumonitis, lung edema)
  • Pale skin, tiredness, shortness of breath, dark urine (hemolytic anemia)
  • Fever, sore throat, or mouth sores due to infections (low white blood cell count)
  • Confusion, tiredness, muscle twitching and cramps, fast breathing (hypochloremic alkalosis)
  • Non-melanoma skin and lip cancer
  • Weakness, bruising, and frequent infections (aplastic anemia)
  • Muscle cramps
  • Fever
  • Weakness (asthenia)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to valsartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or any related medicines.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver or kidney disease, or if you cannot urinate.
  • Do not use if your blood potassium, sodium, or calcium levels are too low or too high and are not controlled by treatment.
  • Stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you experience swelling of your face, tongue, or throat (angioedema).

  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or eye pain, as this could be a sign of serious eye problems.
  • Protect your skin from sun and UV light exposure while taking this medicine, as it can increase skin sensitivity.
  • Seek immediate medical care if you develop severe shortness of breath or breathing problems after taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
