Valsartan/Hydrochlorothiazide Krka contains two active ingredients, valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide, and is used to lower high blood pressure when a single medicine is not enough.

How to Use

Dosage

One tablet per day.

Method

Take one tablet orally once daily, usually in the morning, with or without food. Swallow whole with a glass of water.

Important

One tablet per day, as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change the dose without consulting your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cough
  • Low blood pressure
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Dehydration (signs like thirst, dry mouth, or dry skin)
  • Muscle pain
  • Fatigue or tiredness
  • Tingling or numbness in arms or legs
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing or buzzing in ears (tinnitus)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Low potassium levels in blood
  • Increased fat levels in blood
  • Low sodium levels in blood
  • Low magnesium levels in blood
  • High uric acid levels in blood
  • Itchy skin rash or other rashes
  • Decreased appetite
  • Mild nausea and vomiting
  • Difficulty getting or keeping an erection
RARE
  • Diarrhea
  • Joint pain
  • Breathing difficulties, shortness of breath, or fever
  • Severely decreased urine output (may be a sign of kidney problems)
  • Very low sodium levels in blood (may cause tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, or cramps)
  • Very low potassium levels in blood (may cause muscle weakness, cramps, or abnormal heart rhythm)
  • Low white blood cell count (may cause fever, sore throat, or frequent infections)
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), indicating liver problems
  • Increased kidney function markers in blood (may indicate kidney problems)
  • Increased uric acid levels in blood (can cause gout)
  • Fainting or sudden loss of consciousness
  • Swelling in the gut with stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea (intestinal angioedema)
  • Serious skin rashes (e.g., with fever, joint pain, muscle pain, flu-like symptoms, or red/purple spots)
  • Low blood platelets (may cause unusual bleeding or bruising)
  • High potassium levels in blood (may cause muscle cramps or abnormal heart rhythm)
  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, dizziness, or swelling of face/throat)
  • Increased liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Low hemoglobin (anemia), causing pale skin or tiredness
  • Skin blistering or swelling due to increased sensitivity to sunlight
  • High calcium or sugar levels in blood
  • Sugar in urine
  • Worsening of diabetes
  • Constipation, stomach, or gut discomfort
  • Headache, sleep problems, or feeling down (depression)
  • Inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis), with rash and fever
  • Lupus-like symptoms (rash on face, joint pain, muscle pain, fever)
  • Severe upper stomach pain (pancreatitis)
  • Pale skin, tiredness, shortness of breath, dark urine (hemolytic anemia)
  • Confusion, fatigue, muscle twitching and spasms, rapid breathing (due to electrolyte imbalance)
  • Non-melanoma skin or lip cancer

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to valsartan, hydrochlorothiazide, sulfonamide derivatives, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant (especially if over 3 months pregnant) or planning to become pregnant.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have severe liver or kidney disease, or if you cannot urinate or are on dialysis.
  • Do not use this medicine if your blood potassium or sodium levels are too low, or calcium levels are too high, despite treatment.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema), which may cause difficulty swallowing or breathing. Stop taking the medicine.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience blurred vision or eye pain. These could be signs of a serious eye condition.
  • Protect your skin from sunlight and UV rays while taking this medicine, as your skin may become more sensitive to the sun. Talk to your doctor if you have had skin cancer or notice any new skin changes during treatment.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe shortness of breath or breathing difficulties after taking Valsartan/Hydrochlorothiazide Krka.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other blood pressure-lowering medicines, such as ACE inhibitors (e.g., enalapril, lisinopril, ramipril) or aliskiren, especially if you have diabetes or kidney problems.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
