How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for high blood pressure is 80 mg once daily. For other conditions, such as after a heart attack or for heart failure, the dose may be 20-40 mg twice daily, and your doctor may gradually increase it up to 160-320 mg. For children (6-18 years), the dose depends on weight, starting from 40-80 mg once daily.

Method

Take Valsartan Sandoz tablets with water, with or without food. Take it around the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 320 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Low blood pressure, which may cause dizziness or fainting when standing up.
  • Worsening kidney function.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (angioedema) with swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
  • Sudden loss of consciousness (fainting).
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo).
  • Severe worsening of kidney function (acute kidney failure).
  • Muscle cramps or irregular heartbeat (due to high potassium levels).
  • Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing when lying down, or swollen feet and legs (signs of heart failure).
  • Headache.
  • Cough.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Nausea.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Tiredness.
  • Weakness.
  • Swelling in the intestines (stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea).
  • Skin blisters (blistering rash).
  • Allergic reaction (rash, itching, fever, joint pain, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes).
  • Purple-red spots on the skin, fever, itching (inflammation of blood vessels).
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising (low platelet count).
  • Muscle pain.
  • Fever, sore throat, or mouth sores due to infections (low white blood cell count).
  • Decrease in hemoglobin or red blood cells (can cause anemia).
  • Increased potassium levels in the blood (can cause muscle cramps or irregular heartbeat).
  • Increased liver test values (may indicate liver damage) or yellowing of the skin and eyes.
  • Increased blood urea and creatinine levels (may indicate kidney problems).
  • Decreased sodium levels in the blood (can cause tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, and/or seizures).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to valsartan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a medicine called aliskiren.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have severe kidney disease or are on dialysis.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have recently had a kidney transplant.
  • If you have had a severe allergic reaction (swelling of the face or throat) with another medicine, stop Valsartan Sandoz immediately and seek medical help.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking medicines that can increase potassium levels in your blood.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have lost a lot of fluids due to diarrhea, vomiting, or taking high doses of diuretics.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking other blood pressure medicines, such as ACE inhibitors or aliskiren, especially if you have diabetes and kidney problems.
