How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine the correct dose for you. For high blood pressure in adults, the usual starting dose is 80 mg once daily. Doses for children depend on their weight.

Method

Swallow the tablet with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food. Take your medicine at approximately the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 320 mg, taken in divided doses if prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Low blood pressure, which may cause dizziness and fainting when standing up
  • Worsening kidney function (a sign of kidney impairment)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (swelling of face, lips, tongue, throat, difficulty breathing, rash, itching)
  • Fainting
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Severe kidney failure
  • Muscle cramps
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (due to high potassium levels)
  • Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing when lying down, swollen feet or legs (due to heart failure)
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Tiredness
  • Weakness
  • Intestinal swelling (with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
  • Skin blistering
  • Purple-red spots on skin, fever, itching (blood vessel inflammation)
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising (low platelet count)
  • Fever, sore throat, mouth sores from infections (low white blood cells)
  • Anemia (low hemoglobin or red blood cells)
  • Low sodium levels (tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures, coma)
  • Increased liver or kidney function tests (may indicate organ problems)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to valsartan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it can harm your baby. Avoid during early pregnancy too.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking aliskiren (another medicine for high blood pressure).
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema) with other medicines. If these symptoms occur with Valsartan Krka, stop immediately and seek medical help.

  • Discuss with your doctor if you have severe kidney problems, are on dialysis, have narrowed kidney arteries, or have had a kidney transplant.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines that increase potassium in your blood (e.g., potassium supplements, some diuretics, heparin). Your potassium levels may need to be checked.
  • Inform your doctor if you have lost a lot of body fluid due to diarrhea, vomiting, or high doses of diuretics.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines for high blood pressure, especially ACE inhibitors (like enalapril, lisinopril) or aliskiren, particularly if you have diabetes-related kidney problems.
  • Inform your doctor if you are being treated for heart failure with a combination of ACE inhibitors, MRA medicines (like spironolactone), or beta-blockers (like metoprolol), as Valsartan Krka is generally not recommended in such combinations.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
