How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the typical starting dose is 80 mg once daily, but it can vary based on your condition, from 20 mg twice daily to 160 mg twice daily, or even up to 320 mg daily in some cases; children usually start with 40-80 mg once daily.

Method

Take the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food, around the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose can be up to 320 mg, taken once or in divided doses.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Low blood pressure, causing dizziness or fainting when you stand up
  • Worsening kidney function (a sign of kidney problems)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, hives, and itching
  • Sudden fainting or a spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Severe kidney problems, including acute kidney failure
  • Muscle cramps, abnormal heart rhythm (can be a sign of high potassium in blood)
  • Shortness of breath, trouble breathing when lying down, swollen feet or legs (signs of heart failure)
  • Headache, cough, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, tiredness, or weakness
  • Swelling in the intestines (intestinal angioedema) causing stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Skin rashes, itching, hives, skin blistering, or red-purple spots on the skin (may be signs of blood vessel inflammation)
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising (a sign of low platelet count)
  • Muscle pain
  • Fever, sore throat, or mouth sores due to infection (low white blood cell count), flu-like symptoms, swollen lymph nodes, or painful joints
  • Anemia (low red blood cells, which can cause tiredness and paleness)
  • Low blood sodium levels (can cause tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures, or coma)
  • High liver enzyme levels or yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice), which can indicate liver problems
  • Changes in kidney test results (high blood urea nitrogen and creatinine), indicating abnormal kidney function

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to valsartan or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant for more than 3 months, as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking aliskiren.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had swelling of the face or tongue (angioedema) with other medicines; if this happens with Valsartan Krka, stop immediately and contact your doctor.

  • Tell your doctor if you are dehydrated due to severe vomiting or diarrhea, or taking high doses of diuretics.
  • Discuss with your doctor if you are taking other medicines for high blood pressure or heart failure, especially ACE inhibitors, MRAs, or beta-blockers.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A
