How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 80 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet with a glass of water, with or without food, at approximately the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 320 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Low blood pressure, which can cause dizziness or fainting when standing up
  • Worsened kidney function (a sign of kidney impairment)
RARE
  • Sudden loss of consciousness (syncope)
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Severe kidney function impairment (acute kidney failure)
  • Muscle cramps or abnormal heart rhythm (due to increased potassium in blood)
  • Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing when lying down, or swollen feet and legs (due to heart failure)
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Increased creatinine levels in the blood (indicating kidney function disorder)
  • Intestinal angioedema: swelling in the intestines with symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Skin blistering
  • Allergic skin reactions with rash, itching, hives, fever, swollen joints and joint pain, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, and/or flu-like symptoms
  • Purple-red spots on the skin, fever, itching (vasculitis, which is inflammation of blood vessels)
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising (due to low platelet count)
  • Muscle pain (myalgia)
  • Fever, sore throat, or mouth ulcers (due to low white blood cell count)
  • Decreased hemoglobin and red blood cell count (anemia)
  • Increased liver function values, increased bilirubin levels (yellowing of skin and eyes, jaundice)
  • Increased blood urea nitrogen levels (indicating kidney function disorder)
  • Decreased sodium levels in the blood (can cause tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, and/or seizures)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to valsartan, soybean oil, peanut oil, or other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not use if you have been pregnant for more than 3 months, or are in the second or third trimester of pregnancy.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or impaired kidney function and are taking a blood pressure-lowering medicine containing aliskiren.
  • If you get an allergic reaction (angioedema) with swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, stop taking the medicine right away and contact your doctor.

  • Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines that increase potassium levels in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you are dehydrated (e.g., due to diarrhea or vomiting) or taking high doses of diuretics (water pills).
  • Avoid driving or using machines until you know how this medicine affects you, as it can cause dizziness.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
