How to Use

Dosage

For adults with high blood pressure, the usual starting dose is 80 mg once daily. Your doctor may adjust this.

Method

Take Valsartan Actavis with a glass of water, with or without food, around the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 320 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Low blood pressure, which can cause dizziness or fainting when standing up
  • Worsening kidney function
RARE
  • Sudden fainting or feeling dizzy or like the world is spinning
  • Serious kidney problems, including a sudden worsening of kidney function
  • Muscle cramps or an abnormal heart rhythm due to high potassium levels in the blood
  • Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing when lying down, or swollen feet and legs, which can be signs of heart failure
  • Headache, cough, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, or weakness
  • Swelling in the intestines with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Skin reactions such as blistering, rash, itching, hives, or purple-red spots on the skin
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising, which can be a sign of low platelet count
  • Fever, sore throat, or mouth ulcers due to infections, which can be a sign of low white blood cell count
  • Low hemoglobin and red blood cell count in the blood, which can lead to anemia
  • Liver problems, including yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood, which can cause fatigue, confusion, muscle twitching, or seizures

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to valsartan, soy oil, peanut oil, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, especially after the first three months of pregnancy, as it can harm your baby.
  • If you experience swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or hives, stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical help. These could be signs of a serious allergic reaction.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or affect your concentration, so be careful when driving or operating machinery.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
