How to Use

Dosage

The typical dose is 80 mg once a day, but your doctor may adjust it.

Method

Take Valsarstad with or without food. You can divide the tablet into two equal doses. Swallow it with a glass of water around the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 320 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness, feeling lightheaded when standing up.
  • Low blood pressure, which can make you feel dizzy.
  • Worsening kidney function (a sign of kidney problems).
RARE
  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat, difficulty breathing/swallowing).
  • Sudden fainting.
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo).
  • Severe worsening of kidney function (acute kidney failure).
  • Muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat (due to high potassium in the blood).
  • Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing when lying down, swollen feet or legs (signs of heart failure).
  • Headache.
  • Cough.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • Nausea.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Tiredness.
  • Weakness.
  • Swelling in the intestines causing stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • Skin blistering (a type of skin inflammation).
  • Rash and itching with fever, joint pain, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, or flu-like symptoms.
  • Purplish-red spots on the skin, fever, and itching (due to blood vessel inflammation).
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising (due to a low number of platelets in the blood).
  • Muscle pain.
  • Fever, sore throat, or mouth sores from infections (due to low white blood cell count).
  • Low hemoglobin and red blood cell count (which can cause anemia in severe cases).
  • High potassium levels in the blood (which can cause muscle cramps and irregular heartbeat in severe cases).
  • High liver test values (may indicate liver damage) and high bilirubin levels (which can cause yellowing of the skin and eyes in severe cases).
  • High blood urea nitrogen and creatinine levels (may indicate kidney problems).
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (which can cause tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, and/or seizures in severe cases).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to valsartan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a medicine called aliskiren.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant. It is also not recommended in early pregnancy.
  • If you experience swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or have difficulty breathing, stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately. Do not take this medicine or any other valsartan-containing medicine again.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
