How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will prescribe the exact dose for your condition; for adults, it's usually 900 mg once or twice daily.

Method

Take Valcyte oral solution with food, using the measuring syringe provided. Rinse the syringe well after use.

Important

Always follow your doctor's instructions; the maximum daily dose is typically 1800 mg during a short treatment period.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low white blood cell count (may cause infections like sore throat or fever).
  • Low red blood cell count (may cause tiredness, shortness of breath, or pale skin).
  • Sepsis (blood poisoning) – symptoms include fever, chills, confusion, and slurred speech.
  • Low platelet count (easy bleeding or bruising, blood in urine or stool, gum bleeding).
  • Very low blood values.
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (severe stomach pain radiating to the back).
  • Seizures.
  • Fungal or thrush infections in the mouth.
  • Upper respiratory infection (like a cold or sinusitis).
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Headache.
  • Cough.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • Rash or eczema.
  • Fatigue.
  • Fever.
  • Flu-like symptoms.
  • Urinary tract infection (fever, frequent urination, pain when urinating).
  • Skin infection or infection under the skin.
  • Mild allergic reaction (red and itchy skin).
  • Weight loss.
  • Feelings of depression, anxiety, or confusion.
  • Insomnia (difficulty sleeping).

  • Deafness.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Hives, dry skin.
  • Blood in urine.
  • Male infertility.
  • Chest pain.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to valganciclovir, ganciclovir, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as this medicine may be harmful to the fetus.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney problems or low white blood cell, red blood cell, or platelet counts.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy, tired, shaky, or confused.
