How to Use

Dosage

The ring releases about 0.120 mg of etonogestrel and 0.015 mg of ethinylestradiol every 24 hours.

Method

Insert one ring into the vagina. Leave it in for 3 weeks, then remove it for a 1-week break. After the break, insert a new ring on the same day of the week and around the same time.

Important

Use only one ring at a time for a continuous period of 3 weeks.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abdominal pain, nausea
  • Vaginal yeast infection, discomfort from the ring, genital itching, vaginal discharge
  • Headache or migraine, feeling down, decreased sex drive
  • Breast pain, pelvic pain, painful periods
  • Acne
  • Weight gain
  • The ring coming out of the vagina
RARE
  • Vision problems, dizziness
  • Abdominal swelling, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Tiredness, uneasiness, irritation, mood changes
  • Fluid retention (swelling)
  • Bladder infection (urinary tract infection)
  • Pain or difficulty urinating, strong urge to urinate, frequent urination
  • Problems during sex, including pain, bleeding, or partner feeling the ring
  • High blood pressure
  • Increased appetite
  • Back pain, muscle cramps, pain in legs and arms
  • Decreased skin sensation
  • Tender or enlarged breasts, fibrocystic breast disease
  • Cervical inflammation, cervical polyps, eversion of the cervix
  • Changes in menstrual bleeding (e.g., heavier, longer, irregular, or absent periods), pelvic discomfort, PMS, uterine cramps
  • Vaginal infection (fungal or bacterial), burning, foul-smelling discharge, pain, discomfort, or dryness in vagina or vulva
  • Hair loss, eczema, itching, rash, or hot flashes
  • Hives
  • Harmful blood clots in a vein or artery (e.g., in a leg or foot (deep vein thrombosis), in a lung (pulmonary embolism), heart attack, stroke, mini-stroke, or blood clots in the liver, stomach/intestines, kidneys, or eye).
  • Milk secretion from breasts

Important Warnings

  • Vagiprev slightly increases the risk of blood clots, especially during the first year of use or if you restart it after a break of 4 weeks or more.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you notice symptoms of a blood clot, such as swelling or pain in your leg, sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, vision changes, or severe headache.
  • Do not use Vagiprev if you have or have had a blood clot in your leg, lung, or other organ, or if you have had a heart attack or stroke.
  • Do not use Vagiprev if you need surgery or will be on long-term bed rest.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of angioedema, such as swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing, or hives with breathing difficulties.

  • Do not use Vagiprev if you have certain conditions that increase your risk of blood clots, such as severe diabetes with blood vessel damage, very high blood pressure, very high blood fat levels, or migraine with aura.
  • Do not use Vagiprev if you have or have had breast cancer or cancer of the reproductive organs, or if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Do not use Vagiprev if you have severe liver disease or liver tumors.
