V-Pen 1500

V-Pen is a penicillin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in the throat, sinuses, middle ear, bronchi, and mouth, and also to prevent erysipelas.

How to Use

Dosage

Take V-Pen exactly as your doctor has prescribed.

Method

Take tablets with plenty of liquid, such as a glass of water. Take on an empty stomach: at least 2 hours after a meal and at least 30 minutes before the next meal. You can split the tablet into two equal doses.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose for you. Do not take more than prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea, diarrhea, loose stools
  • Rash
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction symptoms like difficulty breathing, severe skin reactions (redness, itching, swelling, blisters, peeling), or swelling of the mouth, tongue, or throat. Seek immediate medical help.
  • Increase in a specific type of white blood cells (eosinophilia).
  • Sudden swelling in the skin or mucous membranes (angioedema).
  • Swelling in the lungs (pulmonary edema).
  • Hives (itchy rash).
  • Skin rash resembling scarlet fever or measles.
  • Small red spots on the skin (purpura).
  • Allergic inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis).
  • Fever.
  • Faster breakdown of red blood cells (hemolytic anemia).
  • Low number of certain white blood cells (neutropenia).
  • Serum sickness (allergic reaction with swelling and joint pain).
  • Severe or long-lasting diarrhea.
  • Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction (fever and general symptoms at the start of antibiotic treatment).
  • Inflammation of the large intestine (colitis).
  • Black hairy tongue.
  • Liver problems, such as liver damage, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, and high liver enzyme levels.
  • Serious skin reactions, like Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take V-Pen if you are allergic to penicillin or any other ingredient in this medicine, or if you have had a severe allergic reaction to another similar antibiotic (like cephalosporins).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have previously had a rash or other allergic symptoms with antibiotics, or if you are atopic (prone to allergies).
  • If you experience vomiting or diarrhea, as this can prevent the medicine from being properly absorbed, contact your doctor.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, have recently taken, or might take, as they may interact with V-Pen.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

  • Always finish the entire course of treatment, even if you feel better, to prevent the infection from returning or bacteria from becoming resistant to antibiotics.
