Tubilysin is an antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis, usually with other tuberculosis medicines.

How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual recommended dose is 300 mg once a day. For children (over 3 months), the recommended dose is 10 mg/kg daily, up to a maximum of 300 mg daily. Your doctor may prescribe different dosages.

Method

Take the tablets on an empty stomach, 1–2 hours before a meal or 2 hours after a meal, with a glass of water. Take the medicine regularly and do not stop treatment suddenly.

Important

For adults, maximum 300 mg per day or 900 mg three times a week. For children, maximum 300 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Allergic reactions (like fever and skin rashes).
  • Liver damage, sometimes causing yellow skin or eyes (especially in people over 50).
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or throwing up (vomiting).
  • Nerve inflammation, causing tingling or numbness in hands and feet, or sometimes weak and stiff muscles.
  • Skin rashes, itchy bumps on the skin (hives).
  • Tuberculosis symptoms coming back or getting worse, such as cough, fever, tiredness, shortness of breath, headache, not wanting to eat, or weight loss.
RARE
  • Trouble remembering things.
  • Inflammation of the liver.
  • Changes in your blood, like having too few red or white blood cells or platelets.
  • High blood sugar levels.
  • Mood changes, mental illness (psychosis), seizures.
  • Problems with the brain.
  • Inflammation of the nerve that helps you see.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Yellow skin (jaundice), death of liver cells, or liver not working well.
  • Joint problems, breakdown of muscle tissue.
  • Very serious skin reactions (like DRESS, TEN syndromes).
  • A specific type of anemia called sideroblastic anemia.
  • A reaction similar to lupus, with flu-like symptoms (fever, tiredness, headache, muscle/joint pain, rashes) and swollen lymph glands.
  • Too much acid in the body (metabolic acidosis), or not enough niacin (a vitamin).
  • Feeling confused, seeing or hearing things that aren't there, trouble knowing where you are or what time it is.
  • Headache, shaking, dizziness, quick reflexes, or trouble with coordination.
  • Damage to the nerve that helps you see.
  • Inflammation of blood vessels.
  • Allergic inflammation in the lungs.
  • Pancreas inflammation, not wanting to eat, gas, stomach pain, or constipation.
  • Severe red rash with blisters (erythema multiforme), allergic reactions with skin rashes, itching, or hair loss.
  • Red, scaly, widespread rash with bumps under the skin and blisters, often with fever. Usually appears early in treatment.
  • Rheumatic symptoms, joint inflammation.
  • Symptoms similar to lupus, like swollen joints, tiredness, and skin rashes.
  • Difficulty emptying your bladder, kidney damage, including kidney inflammation.
  • Enlargement of breast tissue in men.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to isoniazid, similar substances, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have nerve inflammation, acute liver disease, or if you have had severe liver damage or a severe rash after taking isoniazid before.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, diabetes, cancer, HIV infection, epilepsy, porphyria, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are elderly, or drink a lot of alcohol.
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you develop a severe skin reaction (such as rash, blisters, peeling skin, fever).
  • Contact your doctor if you have unexplained loss of appetite, persistent fatigue, jaundice, itching, numbness in hands/feet, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or dark urine.

  • If tuberculosis symptoms return or worsen during treatment, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Avoid foods containing tyramine or histamine (such as cheeses, red wine, tuna) and alcohol, as they can increase the risk of side effects.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, as Tubilysin can affect their effectiveness.
