How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take, as the dose varies for each person and depends on your condition.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not chew them.

Important

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose based on your needs. Do not take more than prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness or dizziness, especially at the start of treatment, which can cause low blood pressure and fainting when standing up (especially in older people).

  • Dry mouth, increased saliva production, fast heartbeat (palpitations).

  • Feeling of fast, strong, or irregular heartbeats (palpitations).

  • Long-lasting muscle cramps or unusual body positions (dystonia), headache.

  • Difficulty focusing on nearby objects (blurred vision), vision problems.

  • Constipation, digestive issues or upper stomach pain, nausea.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to Truxal or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use if your consciousness is lowered (e.g., if you are very drowsy or unconscious).
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had heart problems or an irregular heartbeat.
  • Do not use if you have very low potassium or magnesium in your blood, or if these conditions run in your family.
  • Do not use if you are taking other medicines that affect your heart's rhythm.

  • Tell your doctor if you have an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma) or abnormal blood cell counts.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children or teenagers under 18 years old.
  • Truxal can make you feel sleepy or dizzy, especially when you first start taking it. Do not drive or use machines until these effects wear off.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make you more drowsy.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor says it is clearly necessary.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you notice signs of blood clots, like swelling, pain, or redness in your legs, chest pain, or trouble breathing.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Sedative. Increases the risk of cardiovascular events, QT prolongation and orthostatic hypotension. Increases risk of falls, extrapyramidal symptoms and cognitive impairment. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 15.1.2024)
