How to Use

Dosage

Take one film-coated tablet twice a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water on an empty stomach before meals.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 40 mg trospium chloride.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dry mouth
  • Digestive problems, constipation, stomach pain, nausea
RARE
  • Inability to empty the bladder (total or partial)
  • Swelling of the face, tongue, and throat that makes it very hard to breathe
  • Sudden severe allergic reaction with shortness of breath, rash, wheezing, and sudden drop in blood pressure
  • Life-threatening allergic reactions involving extensive skin peeling
  • Flatulence (gas), diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Fast heart rate
  • Chest pain
  • Dizziness
  • Blurred vision
  • Rash
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Rapid and irregular heartbeat
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Itching, hives (urticaria)
  • Changes in liver function blood test results
  • Weakness
  • Hallucinations, confusion, agitation (more common in older patients, especially with neurological diseases)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to trospium chloride or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you cannot empty your bladder on your own due to a blockage (e.g., enlarged prostate).
  • Do not take if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (high eye pressure caused by narrowing of the eye angle).
  • Do not take if you have a fast or irregular heartbeat (tachycardic arrhythmia).
  • Do not take if you have myasthenia gravis, a disease causing muscle weakness.

  • Do not take if you have severe inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease).
  • Do not take if you have toxic megacolon (enlarged large intestine with constipation).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 12 years of age.
  • Avoid alcohol while using this medicine, if possible.
  • This medicine may affect your vision and ability to react, so do not drive or use machinery if you feel affected.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include tachycardia, confusion and cognitive impairment. Increases risk of falls. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 25.11.2024)
