How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take.

Method

Take the tablet with water at the same time each day, as directed by your doctor. Some tablets can be divided if you have trouble swallowing.

Important

Follow your doctor's instructions for the maximum daily dose.

RARE
  • Changes in blood cell counts (including white blood cells, red blood cells, and hemoglobin levels)
  • Allergic reactions and hives
  • Increased potassium levels in the blood
  • Eye inflammation
  • Diarrhea
  • Skin sensitivity to sunlight
  • Erythema multiforme (a type of skin rash)
  • Liver damage, increased liver enzyme levels, and jaundice (yellowing of skin/eyes)
  • Meningitis (inflammation around the brain and spinal cord)
  • Bile duct blockage
  • Fever caused by the medicine

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to trimethoprim or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have a lack of folic acid, a severe blood disorder, or bone marrow problems.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have porphyria (a rare metabolic disease).

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you get severe diarrhea during treatment.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms like sore throat, fever, pale skin, or small bruises under the skin, as these can be signs of serious blood problems.
  • Trimopan is not recommended for children under 3 months of age.
  • Do not use Trimopan during pregnancy, especially during the first 20 weeks, as it may cause miscarriage. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
  • If you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, as it contains lactose.
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you have swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing, rash, and breathing problems (signs of a severe allergic reaction).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Contraindicated in case of severe hepatic impairment. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Consider the risks when used in combination with medicines that predispose to hyperkalaemia and are myelotoxic. (updated 6.11.2023)
