How to Use

Dosage

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

Method

Shake the bottle before use. Take the medicine regularly, at the same time each day, and finish the entire course as prescribed. Drink plenty of fluids during treatment.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose for you.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea, vomiting, inflamed tongue.
  • Skin rash and itching.
RARE
  • Swelling of face, tongue, or throat; trouble swallowing; hives and difficulty breathing (signs of a severe allergic reaction).
  • Long-lasting or severe diarrhea (a sign of bowel inflammation).
  • Severe skin rash with blisters or sores in the mouth, eyes, or other moist areas (signs of serious skin conditions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • Severe, widespread skin damage with peeling skin and mucous membranes.
  • Yellowing of the skin, mucous membranes, or whites of the eyes (jaundice).
  • Changes in blood counts (increase or decrease in certain types of white blood cells).
  • Hives.
  • Blood count changes.
  • Allergic and hypersensitivity reactions.
  • Increased potassium levels in the blood.
  • Eye inflammation.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Sensitivity to sunlight, target-shaped skin lesions (erythema multiforme).
  • Liver necrosis.
  • Increased liver enzyme levels (bilirubin and liver enzymes).
  • Meningitis (inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord).
  • Cholestasis (blocked bile flow).
  • Drug-induced fever.
  • Decreased number of certain white blood cells (neutropenia).
  • Hemoglobin changes (methemoglobinemia).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to trimethoprim or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have a folic acid deficiency, which can cause anemia.
  • Do not take if you have a severe blood disorder.
  • Do not take if you have bone marrow failure.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver failure.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have porphyria (a rare metabolic disease).
  • Contact your doctor if you get severe diarrhea.
  • Contact your doctor if you have a sore throat, fever, paleness, or small bruises under the skin, as these could be signs of serious blood problems.
  • If you take this medicine for a long time or in high doses, especially if you are elderly, your blood will be checked regularly.
  • Not recommended for children under 3 months of age.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Contraindicated in case of severe hepatic impairment. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Consider the risks when used in combination with medicines that predispose to hyperkalaemia and are myelotoxic. (updated 6.11.2023)
