How to Use

Dosage

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Yeast infection in the mouth, skin, or vagina.
  • Diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, metallic taste in the mouth, dry mouth.
RARE
  • A decrease in white blood cells.
  • Changes in blood test results.
  • Mood changes, seeing things that aren't there (hallucinations), trouble sleeping.
  • Headache.
  • Temporary changes in vision or hearing.
  • Severe inflammation in the gut.
  • Increased liver enzymes, inflammation of the pancreas.
  • Rash, itching, rash caused by the medicine.
  • Breast enlargement in men.
  • Burning sensation when peeing.
  • Tiredness.
  • Seizures, trembling.
  • Sudden liver failure in patients with Cockayne syndrome.
  • Severe skin reactions, such as blisters and peeling skin.
  • Swelling of the face, lips, or tongue and difficulty breathing (allergic reaction).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Trikozol if you are allergic to metronidazole or any other ingredient in the medicine.
  • Do not drink alcohol during treatment or for two days after you stop taking the medicine.
  • If you get severe symptoms, such as bad stomach pain, yellow skin, or a bad rash, stop the medicine and contact your doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you have any nerve, blood, kidney, or liver disease.
  • If you have Cockayne syndrome, your doctor will carefully monitor your liver during and after treatment.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Consider potential interactions especially with warfarin. May cause dysgeusia and dark-coloured urine. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for one day thereafter. (updated 6.11.2023)
