How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually take 4–8 capsules per day. For children (5–17 years), the dose is usually 2–5 capsules per day. Your doctor will determine the right dose for you.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water on an empty stomach, at least one hour before a meal or two hours after a meal. Do not take other medicines, food, or milk within one hour before or after taking Trientine Tillomed.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is 8 capsules and for children is 5 capsules. Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea (especially at the start of treatment)
RARE
  • Rash
  • Anemia (you may feel unusually tired)
  • Severe stomach pain (duodenitis)
  • Persistent diarrhea (colitis)
  • Nervous system problems, such as tremors, lack of coordination, slurred speech, muscle stiffness, or worsening muscle spasms
  • Lupus-like syndrome (symptoms may include persistent rash, fever, joint pain, and tiredness)
  • Kidney inflammation (lupus nephritis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to trientine or any other ingredient.
  • Your doctor may adjust your dose if you are switching from another trientine medicine.
  • Your doctor will check your blood and urine regularly during treatment to ensure the right dose and control copper levels.
  • This medicine may lower your blood iron levels. Your doctor may prescribe iron supplements if needed.
  • If you have kidney or liver problems, your doctor will monitor your treatment closely to ensure it is safe for you.

  • Do not use antacids containing zinc, calcium, or magnesium with Trientine Tillomed, as they may reduce its effectiveness.
  • If you experience nervous system problems like tremors, speech difficulties, or muscle stiffness, contact your doctor immediately.
  • In rare cases, lupus-like reactions (e.g., persistent rash, fever, joint pain, tiredness) have been reported, especially in patients switching from penicillamine.
  • Maintain at least a two-hour gap between Trientine Tillomed and iron supplements or indigestion remedies. For other medicines, maintain at least a one-hour gap.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor before using this medicine to discuss benefits and risks.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor, even if you feel better, as it is for long-term use.
