How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine the correct infusion rate and dose based on your health; dosage adjustments must always be made under medical supervision.

Method

This medicine is given as a continuous infusion either under the skin (subcutaneously) in the abdomen or thigh through a small tube, or directly into a vein (intravenously) through a catheter placed in the neck, chest, or groin area, using an external portable pump.

Important

Do not increase your dose without consulting your doctor, as the maximum daily dose is individually set by your physician and must not be exceeded.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Widened blood vessels with skin redness (flushing).
  • Pain or tenderness around the infusion site.
  • Skin discoloration or bruising around the infusion site.
  • Headache.
  • Skin rash.
  • Nausea.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Jaw pain.
RARE
  • Dizziness.
  • Vomiting.
  • Fainting or feeling lightheaded due to low blood pressure.
  • Itching or skin redness.
  • Swelling in the feet, ankles, or lower legs, or fluid retention in the body.
  • Bleeding, such as nosebleeds, coughing up blood, blood in urine, bleeding gums, or blood in stool.
  • Joint pain.
  • Muscle pain.
  • Pain in the legs and/or arms.
  • Infusion site infection (including cellulitis).
  • Infusion site abscess.
  • Decreased number of platelets (thrombocytopenia), which helps blood clot.
  • Bleeding at the infusion site.
  • Bone pain.
  • Skin rash with discolored or raised bumps (maculopapular rash).
  • The heart pumping too much blood, causing shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling in legs and abdomen (due to fluid retention), and persistent cough.
  • Inflammation of a vein (thrombophlebitis).
  • Bacterial infection in the bloodstream (bacteremia), or severe bacterial infection in the blood (sepsis), which can be life-threatening.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to treprostinil or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have been diagnosed with pulmonary veno-occlusive disease, where blood vessels in the lungs become swollen and blocked.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not use if you have severe heart problems, such as a heart attack in the last 6 months, severe abnormal heart rhythms, severe coronary artery disease, unstable angina, heart defects that impair heart function, or an untreated heart condition.
  • Do not use if you have a very high risk of bleeding, such as from an active stomach ulcer, injury, or other bleeding disorder.

  • Do not use if you have had a stroke or other brain circulatory disorder within the last 3 months.
  • Do not stop or suddenly decrease your dose without your doctor's instruction, as this can worsen your lung blood pressure and health rapidly.
  • Tell your doctor if your blood pressure drops too low.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience rapidly worsening breathing difficulties or a persistent cough.
  • Be aware of a higher risk of severe bleeding, as treprostinil can slow blood clotting.
  • Report any fever, redness, swelling, or tenderness at the infusion site to your doctor, as these may be signs of infection.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or fainting due to low blood pressure, so do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these symptoms, and ask your doctor for advice.
  • Flushing the infusion line while it is connected can cause accidental overdose.
