Method

This medicine is given continuously, either under your skin (subcutaneously) in your stomach or thigh, or into a vein (intravenously) in your neck, chest, or groin, using a portable pump.

Important

The maximum daily dose is determined and adjusted by your doctor based on your response to the treatment.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Flushed skin, widened blood vessels
  • Pain or tenderness at the infusion site
  • Skin discoloration or bruising around the infusion site
  • Headaches
  • Rashes
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Jaw pain
  • Dizziness
  • Vomiting
  • Feeling lightheaded or fainting due to low blood pressure
  • Itching or red skin
  • Swelling in feet, ankles, or legs, or fluid retention
  • Bleeding, such as nosebleeds, coughing up blood, blood in urine or stool, or bleeding gums
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Pain in arms and/or legs
RARE
  • Infection at the infusion site
  • Abscess at the infusion site
  • Low number of blood cells that help blood clot (thrombocytopenia)
  • Bleeding at the infusion site
  • Skin infection under the skin (cellulitis)
  • Bone pain
  • Skin rash with discoloration or raised bumps
  • Heart failure with symptoms like breathlessness, tiredness, swelling in legs and stomach, and a persistent cough
  • Inflammation of a vein (thrombophlebitis)
  • Bacterial infection in the bloodstream (bacteremia)
  • Sepsis (severe bacterial infection in the blood)

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can lower your blood pressure. Tell your doctor if you feel dizzy or lightheaded.
  • If you experience increasing shortness of breath or a persistent cough, tell your doctor right away as this could be a sign of a serious problem.
  • This medicine can increase your risk of bleeding. Be careful and tell your doctor if you notice any unusual bleeding.
  • If you receive this medicine into a vein and develop fever, redness, swelling, or pain at the infusion site, contact your doctor immediately as these could be signs of infection.
