How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you based on your condition, age, and weight.

Method

This medicine is given as a slow injection directly into a vein. It must not be given into a muscle or the spinal cord.

Important

The maximum daily dose will be decided by your doctor; doses above 2 grams should be used with caution, especially for postpartum bleeding.

  • Skin rash
  • Feeling unwell with low blood pressure, possibly leading to fainting (especially if injected too quickly)
  • Blood clots
  • Seizures
  • Vision changes, including trouble seeing colors
  • Sudden kidney problems
  • Allergic reactions

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to tranexamic acid or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have a disease that causes blood clots.
  • Do not use if you have a condition where blood clots form throughout your body (consumption coagulopathy).
  • Do not use if you have kidney problems.
  • Do not use if you have previously had seizures.

  • This medicine must not be given into the spinal cord or brain due to the risk of seizures and brain swelling.
  • If you notice pain in your back or legs during or after this medicine is given, tell your doctor or nurse right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you have blood in your urine, as it can block your urinary tract.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an increased risk of blood clots, especially if you take birth control pills.
  • If you are on long-term treatment, your vision, especially color vision, should be checked regularly.
  • This medicine is not recommended during breastfeeding as tranexamic acid passes into breast milk.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines that help blood clot, prevent blood clots, or contain estrogen (like birth control pills).
