How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and how long you need to take it.

Method

This medicine is given as a slow injection into a vein (intravenous). It must not be injected into a muscle.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose for you.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea

  • Skin rash
  • Feeling unwell with low blood pressure, especially if the injection is given too quickly
  • Blood clots
  • Seizures
  • Vision problems, including impaired color vision
  • Allergic reactions

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to tranexamic acid or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you currently have a condition that causes blood clots.
  • Do not take if you have a condition called consumptive coagulopathy, where blood clots form throughout your body.
  • Do not take if you have kidney problems.
  • Do not take if you have a history of seizures.

  • This medicine should not be injected into the brain or spinal fluid due to the risk of swelling and seizures.
  • If you have blood in your urine, this medicine could cause a blockage in your urinary tract.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an increased risk of blood clots.
  • If you are on long-term treatment, your vision, especially color vision, should be monitored, and treatment stopped if problems occur.
  • This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tranexamic acid passes into breast milk.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. (updated 5.6.2023)
