How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is one 100 mg or 200 mg capsule once a day.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole, without chewing. You can also open the capsule and empty the granules onto a spoon, then take them directly by mouth with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the granules.

Important

Do not take more than 400 mg of tramadol hydrochloride per day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sick to your stomach
  • Dizziness
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation (difficulty passing stool)
  • Dry mouth
  • Headache
  • Feeling sleepy or tired
  • Sweating more than usual
RARE
  • Fast heartbeat, pounding heart, or fainting, especially when you stand up or exercise; slow heartbeat, high blood pressure.
  • Changes in appetite, itching, tingling, numbness, shaking, slow breathing, seizures, muscle twitching, problems with coordination, temporary fainting.
  • Serotonin syndrome (can cause agitation, seeing things, coma, fever, fast heartbeat, unstable blood pressure, muscle stiffness, coordination issues, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea).
  • Seeing things, confusion, trouble sleeping, anxiety, bad dreams, feeling dependent on the medicine.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Shortness of breath, hiccups.
  • Gagging, stomach discomfort (like feeling full or bloated), diarrhea.
  • Skin reactions (like itching or rash).
  • Muscle weakness.
  • High liver enzyme levels (shown in blood tests).
  • Trouble or pain when peeing, peeing less than usual.
  • Severe allergic reactions (like trouble breathing, wheezing, swelling of face/tongue/throat, hives, or shock). Seek emergency help immediately if these occur.
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to tramadol or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not take if you have used MAO inhibitors (certain medicines for depression) in the last 14 days.
  • Do not take if you have acute poisoning from alcohol, sleeping pills, pain relievers, or other psychological medicines.
  • Do not take if you have epilepsy that is not well controlled by medication.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease.

  • Do not use this medicine for drug withdrawal treatment.
  • Taking more than 400 mg per day can increase the risk of seizures.
  • This medicine contains an opioid, which can lead to dependence and addiction, especially with long-term use. Talk to your doctor if you have a history of addiction.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can increase its effects.
  • Do not use during pregnancy. Long-term use can cause withdrawal symptoms in the newborn.
  • Do not take more than a single dose while breastfeeding, or stop breastfeeding if you use it more often.
  • This medicine may cause drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision, affecting your ability to react. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel your reactions are impaired.
