How to Use

Dosage

Usually one 100 mg tablet twice a day, in the morning and evening. Your doctor will tell you the right dose for your pain.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with enough water, usually in the morning and evening. Do not break or chew them. You can take them with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 400 mg of tramadol per day, unless your doctor tells you to.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Headache
  • Drowsiness (feeling sleepy or tired)
  • Constipation (difficulty passing stool)
  • Dry mouth
  • Vomiting (throwing up)
  • Sweating more than usual
RARE
  • Heart problems (like a fast or pounding heartbeat, or feeling like you might faint)
  • Stomach upset (like bloating or diarrhea)
  • Skin reactions (like itching or rash)
  • Severe allergic reaction (with swelling of the face/throat or trouble breathing, seek immediate medical help)
  • Seizures (fits)
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not real (hallucinations), feeling confused or anxious, having nightmares

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to tramadol or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are currently taking or have taken certain medicines for depression (called MAO inhibitors) within the last 14 days.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have epilepsy that is not well-controlled by treatment.
  • This medicine can cause dependence or addiction. Be careful if you have a history of drug or alcohol abuse, or mental health problems. Talk to your doctor if you are worried about this.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make the effects stronger and more dangerous. Using it with sedatives can also be dangerous.

  • This medicine can make you feel drowsy, dizzy, or blur your vision. Do not drive or operate machines if you feel this way.
  • There is a small risk of a serious condition called serotonin syndrome, especially if taken with certain antidepressants. Seek immediate medical help if you have symptoms like confusion, fast heartbeat, or sweating.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Serotonergic. Prodrug. Genotype affects the response. Reduce the dose in moderately severe and severe renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. (updated 18.8.2025)
