How to Use

Dosage

Usually 50–100 mg for adults and children over 12 years. For long-term use, 50–100 mg every 6–8 hours.

Method

Take the capsules whole with at least half a glass of water.

Important

Do not take more than 400 mg per day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

RARE
  • Fast heartbeat, feeling faint or dizzy when standing up
  • Gagging, stomach discomfort (like bloating), diarrhea
  • Skin rash, itching
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., trouble breathing, wheezing, swollen skin) or sudden collapse (shock)
  • Slow heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Strange skin sensations (e.g., itching, tingling, numbness), shaking, muscle twitching, problems with coordination, speech problems
  • Seizures (fits), especially with high doses or if other seizure-causing medicines are taken
  • Changes in appetite
  • Seeing or hearing things that aren't real (hallucinations), confusion, trouble sleeping, feeling very anxious, nightmares, mood changes (e.g., feeling unusually happy or irritable), changes in activity levels
  • Becoming dependent on the medicine
  • Blurred vision, changes in pupil size
  • Slow or difficult breathing, shortness of breath
  • Worsening of asthma
  • Muscle weakness
  • Difficulty or pain when urinating, less urine than usual
  • Higher liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Low blood sugar
  • Breathing stops during sleep (sleep apnea)
  • Hiccups

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to tramadol or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have used certain depression medicines (MAO inhibitors) in the last 14 days.
  • Avoid alcohol. Do not take if you are affected by alcohol, sleeping pills, other pain medicines, or drugs that affect your mood.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have epilepsy or have had seizures, as this medicine can increase the risk of seizures.
  • Tell your doctor if you have breathing difficulties, as this medicine can make them worse.

  • Tell your doctor if you have serious liver or kidney problems.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant. If breastfeeding, use only once or stop breastfeeding.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy or dizzy, and affect your vision. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel your reactions are slow.
  • Get urgent medical help if you have swelling of the face/tongue/throat, trouble swallowing, hives with breathing problems, or if you notice confusion, fever, fast heart rate, muscle twitching, or very slow/shallow breathing.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Serotonergic. Prodrug. Genotype affects the response. Reduce the dose in moderately severe and severe renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. (updated 18.8.2025)
