How to Use

Dosage

Adults and adolescents over 12 years: One Tradolan Retard 100 mg tablet twice daily (200 mg total per day). Your doctor may adjust the dose.

Method

Swallow tablets whole with plenty of fluid, preferably in the morning and evening. Do not chew them. You can take them with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 400 mg of tramadol hydrochloride per day, unless your doctor tells you to.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling dizzy or lightheaded.
  • Feeling sick to your stomach.
  • Pain in your head.
  • Feeling sleepy or tired.
  • Feeling very tired or lacking energy.
  • Throwing up.
  • Difficulty having bowel movements.
  • Your mouth feels dry.
  • Sweating more than usual.
RARE
  • Fast or strong heartbeats.
  • Stomach pain, bloating, or loose stools.
  • Itchy skin or rash.
  • Severe swelling (face, tongue), difficulty breathing, or severe dizziness.
  • Your heart beating slower than usual.
  • Blood pressure that is higher than normal.
  • Feeling pins and needles, numbness, or shaking.
  • Sudden, uncontrolled electrical activity in the brain.
  • Not feeling as hungry as usual.
  • Feeling confused, having trouble sleeping, or feeling very worried.
  • Your vision is not clear.
  • Breathing becomes slower or shallower.
  • Your muscles feel weak.
  • Trouble passing urine or urinating less.
  • Blood sugar level drops too low.
  • Sudden, involuntary spasms of the diaphragm.
  • A serious condition with symptoms like confusion, fast heartbeat, high fever, or muscle stiffness.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to tramadol hydrochloride or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take with alcohol or certain other medicines, such as MAO inhibitors, sleeping pills, or other strong painkillers. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take.
  • This medicine can be addictive. If you feel you need to take more than prescribed or use it for reasons other than pain relief, talk to your doctor.
  • This medicine can cause breathing problems during sleep, like stopping breathing or low oxygen levels. Contact your doctor if you notice these symptoms.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, especially after long-term use, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor will advise you on how to stop safely.

  • Tramadol can make you feel sleepy, dizzy, or blur your vision. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel this way.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you have signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as wheezing, swelling of the face/tongue, difficulty swallowing, or hives with breathing problems.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Serotonergic. Prodrug. Genotype affects the response. Reduce the dose in moderately severe and severe renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. (updated 18.8.2025)
