How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your body size. For soft tissue sarcoma, the usual dose is 1.5 mg per square meter of body surface, or 1.2 mg for Japanese patients. For ovarian cancer, the usual dose is 1.1 mg per square meter of body surface.

Method

This medicine is given as a drip into a vein. For soft tissue sarcoma, it takes about 24 hours. For ovarian cancer, it takes about 3 hours. It's best given through a main vein (central line) to avoid irritation.

Important

This medicine is given once every three weeks. Your doctor will tell you how long you need to take it.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice)
  • Feeling tired and weak
  • Trouble breathing or coughing
  • Pain in your back or joints
  • Swelling in your body (fluid retention)
  • More bruising or nosebleeds than usual
  • Easier to get infections, sometimes with fever or blood infections (sepsis)
  • Digestive problems (poor appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, changes in taste)
  • Headache
  • Soreness or inflammation in your mouth or digestive tract
  • Hand-foot syndrome (redness, swelling, or blisters on palms and soles of feet)
  • Muscle pain, weakness, numbness, or a crawling sensation on your skin
  • Reactions at the injection site, or medicine leaking out of the vein causing tissue damage
  • Allergic reactions (fever, trouble breathing, red skin/rash, nausea, vomiting)
  • Heart problems (fainting, fast or strong heartbeat, weakened heart, sudden blockage of a lung artery)
  • Hair loss
  • Low blood pressure, flushing, or skin rash
  • Darker skin pigmentation
  • Trouble sleeping
RARE
  • Severe muscle pain, stiffness, or weakness, and dark urine (signs of serious muscle damage that may lead to kidney problems)
  • Trouble breathing, irregular heartbeat, less urine, sudden mood changes, patchy red skin, very low blood pressure, fluid in lungs, or unexplained swelling with dizziness/thirst (signs of serious organ problems)
  • Yellow skin and eyes, upper right abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, discomfort, trouble concentrating, confusion, and drowsiness (signs of severe liver failure)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to trabectedin or any other ingredient.
  • Do not use if you have a serious infection.
  • Do not use if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you are getting a yellow fever vaccine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver, kidney, or heart problems.

  • Get urgent medical help if you get a fever, bad nausea/vomiting, less urine, severe muscle pain/weakness, an allergic reaction, or unexplained swelling with dizziness/thirst.
  • Get urgent medical help if the medicine leaks out of your vein during infusion, causing redness, swelling, or pain.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 18 with pediatric sarcomas.
  • Avoid alcohol during treatment as it can harm your liver.
  • Women who can get pregnant must use effective birth control during treatment and for 3 months after the last dose.
  • Men able to father children must use effective birth control during treatment and for 5 months after the last dose.
