How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose based on your body size and cancer type. For ovarian and small-cell lung cancer, the typical dose is 1.5 mg per square meter of body surface area daily for 5 days, repeated every three weeks. For cervical cancer, the dose is 0.75 mg per square meter of body surface area daily for 3 days, repeated every three weeks.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you Topotecan Ebewe as an infusion into a vein in your arm over about 30 minutes.

Important

Your doctor will determine your safe maximum daily dose. For ovarian and small-cell lung cancer, the typical maximum initial dose is 1.5 mg per square meter of body surface area daily, and for cervical cancer it is 0.75 mg per square meter of body surface area daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fever, severe general weakness, sore throat, or painful urination (signs of infection due to low white blood cells)
  • Feeling very weak and tired (anemia), sometimes needing a blood transfusion
  • Easy bruising or bleeding (due to low platelets)
  • Weight loss and loss of appetite
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation
  • Fever
  • Hair loss
  • Allergic skin reactions (including rash)
  • Yellow skin
  • General feeling of being unwell
  • Itching
RARE
  • Severe stomach pain, fever, and diarrhea (sometimes bloody), which can be signs of inflammation of the bowel (colitis)
  • Lung inflammation (interstitial lung disease) with symptoms like difficulty breathing, cough, and fever
  • Severe allergic or anaphylactic reactions
  • Swelling caused by fluid buildup in the body (angioedema)
  • Mild pain and inflammation at the injection site
  • Itchy rash (hives)
  • Severe stomach pain, nausea, blood in vomit, black or bloody stools (possible signs of a hole in the digestive tract)
  • Mouth sores, difficulty swallowing, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloody stools (possible signs of severe inflammation of the lining of the mouth, stomach, or intestines)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Topotecan Ebewe if you are allergic to topotecan or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not breastfeed while you are receiving this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if your blood cell counts are too low. Your doctor will check this with blood tests.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, as your dose may need to be changed.
  • This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant. It can harm an unborn baby. Use effective birth control during treatment and for 6 months after.

  • This medicine can make you feel tired or weak. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel this way.
