How to Use

Dosage

One tablet.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. For medical abortion, take Topogyne 36–48 hours after taking 600 mg of mifepristone. For surgical abortion, take the tablet 3–4 hours before the procedure.

Important

A single tablet is taken as one dose, as directed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Uterine contractions or cramps
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Bleeding from the uterus
  • Heavy vaginal bleeding
  • Abdominal pain
  • Mild to moderate stomach or intestinal cramps
  • Uterine infection (endometritis or pelvic inflammation)
  • Congenital malformations (fetal malformations)
RARE
  • Fever
  • Fetal death
  • Headache, dizziness, general malaise or fatigue
  • Hives and serious skin diseases (e.g., severe itchy red patches, blisters or sores)
  • Uterine rupture (tearing of the uterus)
  • Local swelling of face and/or throat, possibly with hives
  • Chills
  • Back pain
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Heart and blood vessel problems (e.g., chest pain, breathing difficulties, confusion, or irregular heartbeat, which can lead to cardiac arrest)
  • Severe or fatal toxic or septic shock (symptoms like fever, muscle pain, rapid heart rate, dizziness, diarrhea, vomiting, or weakness)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to misoprostol, prostaglandins, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if your pregnancy has not been confirmed by ultrasound or tests.
  • Do not take if your doctor suspects an ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the womb).
  • Do not take if you cannot take mifepristone (when Topogyne is used with it).
  • Do not take for medical abortion if it's been more than 49 days (7 weeks) since the first day of your last period.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have anemia or are malnourished.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have cardiovascular (heart or blood vessel) disease or an increased risk for it (e.g., over 35, smoker, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a blood clotting disorder.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had a C-section or other uterine surgery.
  • If you have an IUD (intrauterine device), it must be removed before taking this medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if the blister packaging is damaged or if the tablet has not been stored in its packaging.
  • Do not travel far from the treatment center until after your follow-up appointment.
