How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will usually start you on a low dose (30 mg per day) and gradually increase it to the right daily dose for you.

Method

Take the tablet whole with water or another liquid at the same time each day. Usually, one dose is taken in the evening before bedtime, but your doctor may also tell you to take several smaller doses throughout the day.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Tiredness or drowsiness.
  • Weight gain.
  • Low blood pressure, which may cause dizziness or fainting, especially when standing up quickly.
  • Weakness.
RARE
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide. Contact your doctor or go to a hospital immediately.
  • Epileptic seizures (convulsions).
  • Hypomania (mild elevated mood and overactivity).
  • Swelling of ankles or feet (due to fluid retention).
  • Yellowing of eyes or skin (may indicate liver damage).
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Slow heartbeat at the start of treatment.
  • Severe muscle stiffness and fever (neuroleptic malignant syndrome).
  • Joint pain.
  • Restless legs.
  • Skin rash.
  • Heart rhythm disorders (fast irregular heartbeat) or fainting, which can be life-threatening.
  • Decrease in white blood cells, which reduces the body's resistance to infections. If you get a fever, sore throat, mouth sores or other signs of infection, contact your doctor immediately.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Tolvon if you have mania (a strong elevated mood) or severe liver disease.
  • Do not use Tolvon if you are allergic to mianserin or any other ingredient in the medicine.
  • Do not use Tolvon if you are taking or have taken MAO inhibitors within the last two weeks.
  • Children and adolescents under 18 years old should generally not use this medicine, as the risk of suicidal thoughts and hostility may increase.
  • If you have suicidal thoughts, contact your doctor immediately or go to a hospital.

  • Do not stop taking the medicine suddenly; always talk to your doctor about gradually reducing the dose.
  • Tolvon can cause drowsiness, so do not drive or operate machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Do not drink alcohol during Tolvon treatment, as it can enhance the effects of alcohol.
