Tobrasone eye drops contain a corticosteroid and an antibiotic, used to treat and prevent eye inflammation and infection after cataract surgery in adults and children aged 2 and older.

How to Use

Dosage

One drop in the affected eye(s) every 4-6 hours while awake. During the first 48 hours, your doctor may increase the dose to one drop every two hours.

Method

Wash hands, shake the bottle. Tilt your head back and pull your lower eyelid down. Drop one drop into the pocket. Close your eye and gently press the inner corner near your nose for at least one minute. Do not touch the tip of the bottle to your eye or any other surface.

Important

Do not use for more than 24 days.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you have an eye infection, thick discharge from your eye, or a red eye that hasn't been checked by a doctor.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to tobramycin, dexamethasone, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a disease that thins eye tissues (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, Fuchs' dystrophy, or after cornea transplant) as this medicine can worsen it or slow healing.
  • Stop using this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you notice an allergic reaction like severe itching, rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or other body parts, shortness of breath, or severe skin reactions.
  • Contact your doctor if your symptoms get worse or come back suddenly.

  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as this medicine can increase eye pressure or cause cataracts.
  • If you use Tobrasone for a long time, you might get eye infections, high eye pressure, or cataracts. Regular eye pressure checks are needed, especially for children under 6.
  • Do not give Tobrasone to children under 2 years old.
  • Do not wear contact lenses while treating eye infections or inflammation. Remove contact lenses before using and wait 15 minutes before putting them back.
  • If your vision blurs temporarily after using the drops, do not drive or use machines until your vision is clear.
  • Do not touch the tip of the dropper bottle to your eye, eyelid, surrounding skin, or any other surface to avoid contamination.
  • Do not use the bottle for more than 4 weeks after opening to prevent eye infections.
  • Do not share this medicine with others.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For temporary use. Start and continue therapy under supervision by an ophthalmologist. Do not use if fungal or viral infection is suspected. (updated 4.12.2023)
