Tobi is an antibiotic used to treat lung infections caused by the Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria in patients with cystic fibrosis who are 6 years and older, helping to improve breathing.

How to Use

Dosage

Take two ampoules daily for 28 days, inhaling the content of one ampoule in the morning and one in the evening.

Method

Inhale the medicine using a nebulizer directly into your lungs.

Important

The maximum daily dose is two ampoules, taken 12 hours apart, with at least 6 hours between doses.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Runny or stuffy nose, sneezing
  • Voice changes (hoarseness)
  • Discolored mucus (sputum)
  • Worsened lung function tests
RARE
  • Feeling unwell (nausea)
  • Muscle pain
  • Voice changes with sore throat and difficulty swallowing (laryngitis)
  • Itching
  • Itchy rash
  • Rash
  • Loss of voice
  • Changes in taste
  • Sore throat
  • Reduced urine output, vomiting, confusion, and swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet (which can be signs of sudden kidney problems).
  • Hearing loss, ringing or hissing in the ears.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Tobi if you are allergic to tobramycin or any other aminoglycoside antibiotic, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have unusual difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing, or chest tightness. These can happen when inhaling medicines, including Tobi.
  • Inform your doctor if you have or have ever had hearing problems (like ringing in ears or dizziness), kidney problems, or ongoing or worsening muscle weakness (e.g., in myasthenia or Parkinson's disease).
  • Tell your doctor if you cough up bloody mucus.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor about the risks before using this medicine.

  • Tobi should not be given to children under 6 years of age.
  • Do not mix Tobi with any other medicines in the nebulizer.
