How to Use

Dosage

For painful muscle spasms, take 2-4 mg three times a day. For muscle stiffness due to nerve problems, your doctor will slowly adjust your dose, starting with no more than 6 mg daily divided into three doses.

Method

Always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions exactly when taking this medicine.

Important

Do not take more than 36 mg in one day.

  • Slurred speech
  • Severe liver problems like hepatitis or liver failure (signs include dark urine, yellow eyes or skin)
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations), or feeling confused
  • Severe allergic reactions, including trouble breathing, dizziness, swelling of the face or throat, or itchy rashes (hives)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to tizanidine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if you are using fluvoxamine (a medicine for depression).
  • Do not take if you are using ciprofloxacin (an antibiotic).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney problems.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have signs of liver problems, like feeling sick, not wanting to eat, or feeling very tired.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are older.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have low blood pressure, which can make you feel dizzy or faint.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor. Stopping suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms like high blood pressure or headache.
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make you more sleepy.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not drive or use machines if this medicine makes you drowsy, dizzy, or lightheaded from low blood pressure.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. In severe renal impairment, administer only once a day. Significant adverse effects include sedation, hypotension and torsades de pointes ventricular tachycardia. Consider potential interactions. (updated 16.9.2024)
