How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the typical starting dose is 2 mg, taken three times a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 36 mg in total per day.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to tizanidine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take with certain antidepressants (like fluvoxamine) or antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have severe kidney problems or heart problems. You might need a lower dose.
  • If you have liver problems, your doctor may do regular checks. Stop taking the medicine and tell your doctor right away if your skin or the whites of your eyes turn yellow, or if you feel very sick, lose appetite, or feel unusually tired for no reason.

  • Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can make you feel more tired or sleepy.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy or dizzy, which can affect your ability to drive or use machines safely. Do not drive or use machines until you know how Tizagelan affects you.
  • Tizagelan is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as its effects on the baby are not fully known. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Do not stop taking Tizagelan suddenly without talking to your doctor, especially if you take high doses. Stopping suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms like a faster heartbeat and high blood pressure.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. In severe renal impairment, administer only once a day. Significant adverse effects include sedation, hypotension and torsades de pointes ventricular tachycardia. Consider potential interactions. (updated 16.9.2024)
