How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually 20-30 mg per kg of body weight daily or 30-40 mg per kg of body weight three times a week.

Method

Take the tablets on an empty stomach, exactly as your doctor has told you.

Important

Maximum 2.5 grams daily, or 3 grams three times a week, depending on your prescribed dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High levels of uric acid in your blood (which can cause gout)
  • Feeling sick (nausea), not wanting to eat, vomiting
  • Increased liver enzyme levels
  • Gout, joint pain
  • Tuberculosis symptoms returning or getting worse (e.g., cough, fever, tiredness, shortness of breath, headache, not wanting to eat, weight loss, weakness)
RARE
  • Acute porphyria (a rare problem with your body's metabolism)
  • Liver damage or failure, liver inflammation (hepatitis), yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), enlarged liver
  • Low number of blood platelets (thrombocytopenia), a specific type of anemia (sideroblastic anemia)
  • Skin rashes, sensitivity to sunlight, severe swelling of skin or mucous membranes, hives, itching, or a severe allergic reaction with rash, fever, and organ problems (DRESS syndrome)
  • Kidney inflammation, problems with urination
  • Fever caused by the medicine
  • Lack of vitamin B3 (pellagra), which can cause rash, diarrhea, and memory problems
  • Enlarged spleen
  • Seizures, headache, dizziness
  • Worsening of stomach ulcers

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to pyrazinamide or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease (with jaundice) or porphyria (a rare metabolic disorder).
  • Talk to your doctor before taking if you have gout, liver damage, kidney problems, or diabetes.
  • Do not drink alcohol during treatment, as it can increase the risk of liver damage.
  • Avoid strong sunlight, as this medicine can make you sensitive to the sun.
