How to Use

Dosage

Inhale the content of one capsule (18 micrograms tiotropium) once a day.

Method

The capsules are only for inhalation and should not be swallowed. Place a Tiogiva capsule into the Tiogiva inhaler, which will pierce it, allowing you to inhale the powder.

Important

Do not take more than one capsule per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dry mouth, usually mild.
RARE
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
  • Changes in taste.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation).
  • Sore throat.
  • Hoarseness.
  • Cough.
  • Heartburn (reflux disease).
  • Constipation.
  • Fungal infection in the mouth and throat (oral thrush).
  • Rash.
  • Difficulty urinating (urinary retention).
  • Painful urination.
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia).
  • Vision disturbances, such as seeing halos or colored images around lights, with red eyes (glaucoma).
  • Increased eye pressure.
  • Fast or racing heartbeat (tachycardia/palpitations).
  • Chest tightness with cough, wheezing, or shortness of breath right after inhalation (bronchospasm).
  • Nosebleed.
  • Inflammation of the voice box (laryngitis).
  • Sinus infection (sinusitis).
  • Blockage in the intestines or lack of bowel movements (bowel obstruction, paralytic ileus).
  • Gum inflammation (gingivitis).
  • Tongue inflammation (glossitis).
  • Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia).
  • Mouth inflammation (stomatitis).
  • Nausea.
  • Hypersensitivity reactions, including immediate reactions.
  • Severe allergic reaction causing swelling of the face or throat (angioedema).
  • Hives (urticaria).
  • Itching.
  • Urinary tract infection.
  • Loss of body fluids (dehydration).
  • Tooth decay (dental caries).
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic reaction).
  • Skin inflammation or skin sores.
  • Dry skin.
  • Joint swelling.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Tiogiva if you are allergic to tiotropium or any other ingredient in this medicine, or to atropine or similar substances like ipratropium or oxitropium.
  • Tell your doctor if you have narrow-angle glaucoma, prostate problems, or difficulty urinating.
  • If you have kidney problems, talk to your doctor.
  • Tiogiva is for daily maintenance treatment of COPD and should not be used for sudden attacks of breathlessness or wheezing.
  • If you experience an allergic reaction like rash, swelling, itching, wheezing, or shortness of breath after taking Tiogiva, contact your doctor immediately.

  • Some inhaled medicines, including Tiogiva, can cause chest tightness, cough, wheezing, or shortness of breath right after inhalation. If this happens, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Be careful not to let the inhalation powder get into your eyes, as it can cause or worsen narrow-angle glaucoma. If this happens, stop using Tiogiva and contact your doctor, preferably an eye specialist, right away.
  • Dry mouth can occur and may lead to tooth decay over time. Practice good oral hygiene.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had a heart attack in the last 6 months, or if you have unstable heart rhythm issues or severe heart failure in the last year.
  • Do not use this medicine during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically recommended by your doctor.
