How to Use

Dosage

For adults and young people (12-17 years, weighing 50 kg or more), the usual daily dose is 1000 mg to 3000 mg. Your doctor will start you on a lower dose for two weeks.

Method

Take Tilamir tablets by mouth twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, around the same time each day. Swallow tablets with a glass of water. You can take Tilamir with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3000 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nose and throat infection
  • Drowsiness
  • Headache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Depression, anger, aggression, anxiety, trouble sleeping, nervousness, or irritability
  • Seizures, balance problems, dizziness, feeling of instability, lack of energy, or shaking
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Cough
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, indigestion, vomiting, or nausea
  • Rash
  • Feeling weak or tired
RARE
  • Low counts of blood cells (platelets, white blood cells, or all types)
  • Weight changes (loss or gain)
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or suicide attempts, mental health issues, strange behavior, seeing or hearing things that aren't real, anger, confusion, panic attacks, severe mood swings, agitation
  • Memory loss, trouble concentrating, coordination problems, or tingling skin
  • Double vision or blurry vision
  • Abnormal liver test results, hair loss, itching, muscle weakness, or muscle pain
  • Severe allergic reactions (like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, trouble breathing, or severe skin rashes with fever)
  • Low sodium levels in the blood
  • Slow thinking or difficulty focusing
  • Delirium (severe confusion and changed mental state)
  • Brain disease (encephalopathy)
  • Seizures that get worse or happen more often
  • Uncontrolled muscle jerks or spasms, hyperactivity, or trouble controlling movements
  • Changes in heart rhythm
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
  • Liver failure or hepatitis (liver inflammation)
  • Sudden kidney problems
  • Serious skin reactions (like blisters, peeling skin, target-like rash, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Muscle tissue breakdown (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Limping or difficulty walking

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to levetiracetam or any other ingredients.
  • If you have kidney problems, talk to your doctor, as your dose might need to be changed.
  • If you notice a child's growth slowing down or early puberty, tell your doctor.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or feel very sad, talk to your doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your family have a history of irregular heartbeats or other heart issues.

  • If you or others notice big changes in your mood or behavior (like unusual aggression or anger) that last for days, tell your doctor.
  • Your seizures might get worse or happen more often, especially when you start this medicine or increase the dose. Contact your doctor immediately if this happens.
  • Tilamir should not be the only medicine used for children and young people under 16 years old.
  • Do not take macrogol (a medicine for constipation) one hour before or after Tilamir, as it can reduce how well Tilamir works.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice. Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking this medicine.
  • This medicine can make you sleepy, which may affect your ability to drive or use machines. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
