How to Use

Dosage

The typical dose for adults is 1000 mg to 3000 mg daily. Your doctor will often start you on a lower dose.

Method

Take the tablets by mouth with water, twice a day (morning and evening) at about the same time. You can take them with or without food.

  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, indigestion, vomiting, or nausea
  • Skin rash
  • Feeling weak or tired
RARE
  • Low number of platelets or white blood cells
  • Weight loss or weight gain
  • Suicidal attempts or thoughts, mental health issues, unusual behavior, hallucinations, anger, confusion, panic attacks, mood changes, or agitation
  • Memory loss, poor coordination, tingling skin (pins and needles), or difficulty concentrating
  • Double vision or blurred vision
  • Abnormal liver tests
  • Hair loss, skin rash, or itching
  • Muscle weakness or muscle pain
  • Injury
  • Infection
  • Low number of all types of blood cells
  • Severe allergic reactions (like DRESS, anaphylaxis, or swelling of face, lips, tongue, and throat)
  • Low sodium levels in blood
  • Severe confusion or disorientation (delirium)
  • Brain disease (encephalopathy)
  • Uncontrolled muscle jerks in head, body, arms, and legs, or restless movements (hyperkinesia)
  • Changes in heart rhythm
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Liver failure or inflammation of the liver (hepatitis)
  • Sudden worsening of kidney function
  • Severe skin rashes (like erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) with increased creatine kinase in blood
  • Limping or difficulty walking

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to levetiracetam or any other ingredients.
  • If you have kidney problems, your doctor may need to change your dose.
  • Contact your doctor if you notice slow growth or unexpected puberty changes in a child.
  • If you have symptoms of depression or thoughts of harming yourself, talk to your doctor right away.
  • Inform your doctor if you or your family have a history of irregular heartbeats or problems with salt balance.

  • Tell your doctor if you experience unusual thoughts, irritability, or aggression, or if your mood or behavior changes significantly.
  • If your seizures get worse or happen more often, especially in the first month of treatment or after a dose increase, contact your doctor as soon as possible.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without your doctor's advice, as it may increase the number of seizures.
  • Avoid taking macrogol (a laxative) one hour before or after your Tilamir dose, as it can reduce the medicine's effect.
  • This medicine can make you sleepy, so be careful when driving or using machines until you know how it affects you.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor. Tilamir is generally not recommended during breastfeeding.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience: weakness, dizziness, or shortness of breath (signs of a severe allergic reaction); swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; flu-like symptoms with rash, fever, and swollen lymph nodes; low urine output, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, confusion, or swelling in legs/ankles (signs of sudden kidney failure); severe skin rashes like blisters or peeling skin (erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis); or severe mental changes like confusion, memory loss, unusual behavior, or uncontrolled movements.
