How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults and teens (over 12 years and weighing 50 kg or more) is 1000 mg to 3000 mg per day. Your doctor will start you on a lower dose for two weeks.

Method

Take Tilamir tablets by mouth with enough liquid (like a glass of water). You can take it with or without food. Take it twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, around the same time each day.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 3000 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nose and throat inflammation
  • Drowsiness
  • Headache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Mood changes (depression, hostility, aggression, anxiety, insomnia, nervousness, irritability)
  • Seizures, balance problems, dizziness, lack of energy, shaking (tremor)
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Cough
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, upset stomach, vomiting, nausea
  • Rash
  • Feeling weak or tired
RARE
  • Decrease in blood platelets or white blood cells
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Suicidal thoughts or attempts, mental disorders, unusual behavior, hallucinations, anger, confusion, panic attacks, sudden mood changes, agitation
  • Memory loss, poor coordination, tingling sensation, difficulty concentrating
  • Double vision, blurred vision
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Hair loss, rash, itching
  • Muscle weakness, muscle pain
  • Injury
  • Infection
  • Decrease in all types of blood cells
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., DRESS, anaphylaxis, swelling of face, lips, tongue, and throat)
  • Low sodium levels in blood
  • Personality disorders, slow thinking, difficulty concentrating
  • Delirium (severe confusion)
  • Encephalopathy (brain disease)
  • Uncontrolled muscle spasms (head, trunk, limbs), movement disorders, overactivity
  • Change in heart rhythm
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
  • Liver failure, liver inflammation
  • Sudden kidney failure
  • Severe skin reactions (e.g., blistering rash, skin peeling, lesions around mouth, nose, eyes, genitals)
  • Rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown)
  • Limping or difficulty walking

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Tilamir if you are allergic to levetiracetam or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • If you have kidney problems, follow your doctor's instructions as your dose might need to be adjusted.
  • Contact your doctor if you notice slowed growth or unexpected puberty development in a child.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have symptoms of depression or thoughts of harming yourself or suicide.
  • Tell your doctor if you or a family member has a history of irregular heart rhythm.

  • Contact your doctor right away if you experience unusual thoughts, irritability, or aggressive behavior, or if your mood or behavior changes significantly.
  • In rare cases, seizures might get worse or happen more often, especially during the first month of treatment or after a dose increase. Contact your doctor as soon as possible if this happens.
  • Do not stop taking Tilamir without talking to your doctor first, as this can increase your seizures.
  • Tilamir can make you feel sleepy, especially when you first start taking it or after a dose increase. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.
